Leo Sayer and Marcella Detroit Collaborate on “Soul Mining” for Parkinson’s Charity Album
Renowned artists Leo Sayer and Marcella Detroit have joined forces to record “Soul Mining,” a standout track on the charity compilation Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s. This album, released on 14 February 2025, aims to raise funds and awareness for Cure Parkinson’s, a charity dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
The collaboration between Sayer and Detroit brings together their distinctive vocal styles, delivering a soulful rendition that resonates with listeners. “Soul Mining” is one of the 20 tracks on the album, which features contributions from a host of legendary musicians, including Hank Marvin, The Waterboys, Paul Carrack, and Gary Brooker.

The Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s project was spearheaded by esteemed music manager Ian Grant, who has been living with Parkinson’s disease for the past nine years. Grant’s vision was to unite the music community to support research and raise awareness for the condition. Speaking about the project, Grant stated, “I was determined to put this project together. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but the contribution I’ve received from the talented people involved has kept this alive.”
The album has garnered significant support from the music industry, with Pete Townshend and The Who’s Double O Charity donating £20,000 in support of the initiative. Townshend expressed his personal connection to the cause, noting that his father-in-law suffered from a condition related to Parkinson’s, and a close friend was also diagnosed with the disease.
“Soul Mining” and the entire Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s album are available for purchase and streaming on major platforms, with all proceeds directed towards Cure Parkinson’s to fund vital research. This collaboration not only showcases the unifying power of music but also emphasizes the collective effort to combat Parkinson’s disease.
