🎤 Tim Butler – The Psychedelic Furs, Post-Punk Icons & Timeless Style 🎤

On this episode of Long Way to the Top, we’re joined by Tim Butler, co-founder and bassist of the legendary Psychedelic Furs—a band that helped define the post-punk and new wave era with their unmistakable sound and style.

Formed by Tim and his brother Richard Butler, The Psychedelic Furs fused edgy guitars, haunting saxophones, and poetic, often cryptic lyrics to create something utterly original in the late ’70s and early ’80s. They released eight albums, including the seminal 1981 breakthrough Talk Talk Talk, which paved the way for their global rise.

We dive into the stories behind some of their biggest hits, including the beloved classic “Love My Way”, and the iconic “Pretty in Pink”—a song that not only inspired a generation but gave its name to a John Hughes film and cemented the Furs’ place in pop culture history.

Tim reflects on the band’s journey, the chemistry with his brother Richard, the ever-evolving music scene, and what continues to drive The Psychedelic Furs after all these years.
